Best ever potato recipe!

If you haven’t tried the delicious taste of crispy mashed potatoes, you definitely have to! I first tried them three years ago when an Australian food blogger named Claire introduced me to them. These potatoes will change the way you think about cooking potatoes.

Although they look completely different, they taste similar to Korean fries. I proudly declare them “naive.” The inside is soft and the top and bottom are very crispy. These bumps are incredible! You don’t have to try to straighten it. The more structured the surface, the better it is to chew.

How to Make the Best Smashed Potatoes

Choose small potatoes from large potatoes. This method works with any size potato, including roast potatoes. However, for crispy baked potatoes, choose potatoes the size of one or two golf balls.

Small red and yellow potatoes are usually available. Both are delicious, but red sweet potatoes have more flavor in the skin and personally I like them better.

For this recipe we recommend using a large baking tray. Ideally, everyone should have a half-sheet pan, as recipe testers often use half-sheet pans for baking. You will need a large baking surface that will fit all the potatoes, leaving some space around each potato. If necessary, use two pots instead of one.

Grease a baking sheet with olive oil. I usually choose parchment paper because it has a nonstick surface and is easy to clean, but using an oiled sheet when baking potatoes gives them a crispier texture. In my opinion, the extra cleaning effort is worth it.

I add a small amount of my own garlic and onion powder to enhance the flavor of the potatoes. As a result, the taste of potatoes reaches a higher level. This combination is particularly suitable for baking potatoes, as garlic burns easily in the oven and can have an unpleasant taste.

Crispy Smashed Potatoes

To make crispy smashed potatoes, start by boiling small potatoes until tender. Drain and let them cool slightly. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place the boiled potatoes on a baking sheet. Use a fork or potato masher to gently smash each potato. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any desired herbs or seasonings. Roast in the oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are crispy and golden brown. Enjoy your crispy smashed potatoes as a delicious side dish!
